ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT- APRIL 1 –JUNE 30, 2014

The Environmental Sustainability Committee was inaugurated in March 2014. The team is led by Prof. D. N. Mungai who is the Deputy Director, WMI and also a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences. Every college including Central Administration and SWA has Champions whose main function is to champion environmental matters in the University.

During this Quarter (April 1- June 30 2014) , the following has been accomplished by the Team:-

  1. Planting over 10,000 trees of indigenous types
  2. Preparing a Draft Manual on how to plant trees
  3. Preparing a draft manual on e- waste management
  4. Heralding sensitization talks on environmental matters in the University

 

In Administration Division, there was a tree planting session on May 14, 2014. 100 trees were planted by the entire staff in the Department. The survival rate observed after one month was 100%.

The committee is currently working on systems of recycling everyday materials used in the university. The team hopes that with this king of innovation, the university will save millions and also improve on environment.
