Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Finance, Prof. Njoroge arrives for Environment Sustainability Training

On a two day training that kicked off today; Thursday, June 11 at the CCU,  UNEP and NEMA work hand in hand in Training members of staff at the University of Nairobi on Environmental sustainability.

Speaking during the Opening remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration &Finance), Prof. Njoroge, on behalf of The Vice Chancellor Prof. Mbithi, congratulated the staff members for being diligent in preparation of environmental reports, implementing sustainability programs within the University of Nairobi and for having environmental sustainability champions.

This was echoed by the Mr. Ayub Macharia, former Director General of Nema, when he said, “Out of the 13 universities that report, The University of Nairobi is one of the best. “

He also said that the government is taking a lead role in training other government institutions on the issue of sustainability so that the Economic and Social advantages can be seen.

Mr. Macharia challenged the Institution to take up other parameters when it comes to Environmental sustainability apart from the usual tree planting that the University of Nairobi has religiously been taking up year after year.

He added that there are tangible Economic implications that will be seen when the institution takes that extra step; he gave instances like harvesting rain water, engaging in climate change practices and discussions.

Mr. Ayub Macharia thanked all the staff members that were available for the two-day training and assured them of an engaging session; that will bring a positive impact in the nation.
